Don’t Eat or Drink on Trains and Buses

  • 맛집영어 영어수강 영어교재 이미지
  • Strict rules exist about eating or drinking on public transportation in Singapore. Eating or drinking on public trains, better known as MRT (Mass Rapid Transport), is illegal. Anyone caught doing so will be fined SGD500(\419,000). Eating or drinking on public buses, however, is not illegal.
However, it is strongly frowned upon. Anyone eating or drinking on public buses in Singapore will find themselves the recipient of many nasty stares.

Q. Do you think people should be
allowed
to eat and drink on public transportation?
A. No, I think eating and drinking on public transportation should be banned! The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. The biggest reason why I think so is the mess. Imagine if one person drops some sauce, another person drops their drink and eventually the thousands of people using the public transportation can create a gigantic mess. The floors would be sticky and the seats would be dirty. We cannot expect the cleaning staff to be on standby 24/7, to clean up something every time someone drops or spills something. For this reason, I don’t believe people should be allowed to eat and drink on public transportation.
