Malaysians drive on the left side of the road, with the steering wheel on the right side of the car. This is opposite to driving in other countries, such as South Korea or US. In smaller towns of Malaysia, pedestrians do not always follow traffic laws and will often jaywalk. Drivers in Malaysia have to pay extra attention to jaywalking pedestrians. There are also often highways jams, especially in big cities like Kuala Lumpur. Visitors driving in Malaysian are strongly advised to stay away from the highways during peak hours.

A. I have driven in countries that drive on the opposite side of the road to my country. I remember sitting in the front driver seat in my friend’s car, and it was the strangest sensation. It was also a little scary, especially at intersections, because it felt like I was making a turn on the wrong side of the street. I also had the constant feeling that other cars were going to hit me because I was on the wrong side of the street. In the beginning, I would also open the door on the wrong side of the car. I would open the passenger door when I was a driver, and vice-versa. Eventually I got used to driving on the opposite side of the road, but I still had to pay extra attention when I was driving.
