Don't Take Pictures Without Permission

If visitors want to take pictures of locals, they are advised to get permission first. Taiwanese are sensitive to having their faces captured in photos. It is best to avoid taking the faces of people when taking photos in Taiwan. The same sensitivity should be shown when uploading photos online. The privacy of others should be respected by not posting photos of others without their permission.

방문자가 현지인의 사진을 찍으려면 그들의 허락을 먼저 받아야 한다. 대만인들은 그들의 얼굴이 사진 찍히는 것에 민감하다. 대만에서 사진을 찍을 때는 사람들의 얼굴을 찍지 않도록 피하는 것이 가장 좋다.
사진을 온라인 상에 업로드 할 때도 동일한 민감성이 적용되어야 한다. 타인의 허락 없이 타인의 사진을 게시하지 않도록 타인의 사생활이 존중되어야 한다.

Q. If someone took a picture of you without your permission, or if you found yourself on social media without your permission, what would you do?

A. If it is among friends, I would first ask to see the photo if someone took my photo without my permission. If I am okay with it or if only a small part of me shows, then I will leave it. If I think it violates my privacy, then I would ask the person to delete the photo in front of me. On the other hand, if it is a group photo, it would mean that I gave my consent upon taking the photo, so I would not have any objection to it being posted online. However, if for some reason I think a group shot with me is not appropriate to be posted online, I would ask the person to remove it.
