Hawker centers are an integral part of Singapore culture. A hawker center is an outdoor dining area filled with food stalls selling different types of food. This cultural staple allows people from all walks of life to enjoy delicious meals at low prices. Hawker centers are also representative of the cultural diversity in Singapore. Western, Chinese, Indian, and halal Malay cuisines are all found at hawker centers. These popular dining hubs are also UNESCO designated heritage sites.

A. I ate at a hawker center once when I visited Singapore and it was fantastic! It was so good that I wished I had the chance to try it a second time before leaving. The hawker center that I visited was very diverse with many options of food to choose from. My friends and I decided to try each of the western, Chinese, Malay, and Indian cuisines and everything was delicious! It wasn’t just the food but the hawker center itself was quite an experience. It looked like the vast melting pot. It was buzzing with life, with people of different races everywhere, and filled with the delicious smells of food. The hawker center in Singapore is definitely worth a visit!
