The Malay of Malaysia are officially Muslims with local Muslim religious beliefs. The Malay are a very sociable, family-oriented, and community-oriented people. Female Muslims wear a “hijab” to cover their hair. This is to cover their heads, the most important part of the body to Muslims, and to maintain modesty and privacy from unrelated members of the opposite sex. Muslim men are required to have prayers every Friday afternoon at the Muslim mosques.

말레이시아의 말레이인은 공식적으로는 현지 이슬람교를 믿는 무슬림이다. 말레이인들은 매우 사교적이고 가족 지향적이며 지역사회 중심적인 사람들이다.
여성 이슬람교도들은 머리를 가리기 위해 "히잡"을 착용한다. 이것은 이슬람교도들에게 신체의 가장 중요한 부분인 그들의 머리를 가리고, 반대파 성을 가진 사람들로부터 겸손함과 사생활을 유지하기 위한 것이다. 이슬람교도 남성들은 매주 금요일 오후에 이슬람 사원에서 기도를 해야 한다.

Q. How do you feel when you see people from a religion with a
strict
culture?

A. It is sometimes difficult for me when I see people from a religion with very strict beliefs. I don’t always agree with the strict beliefs, especially when they are unfair to women. I had some female friends in the past who practiced religions with very strict beliefs. It was difficult for them sometimes to live by their religious beliefs. They would often complain about it to me but there was nothing that they could do about it. It was painful sometimes for me to watch them. But whether I agree or disagree, the point is that I have to respect the rights of others to practice what they believe in.
