  • Tim Hortons is a famous fast-food coffee and donut chain founded by a hockey player. Just like hockey, Tim Hortons is so popular in Canada that it is part of the cultural identity. Founded in 1965, Tim Hortons has become such a part of the Canadian culture that it can be found everywhere in Canada. It is also probably the main reason why Canadians eat more doughnuts and has more donut stores than any other nation. Even if you do not like the coffee or doughnuts, it is better not to criticize this Canadian cultural icon.

Q & A
Vocabulary
Q. What would you do if you bought something that tasted bad? Would you forget it and not say anything, or would you let the store know and ask for a
refund
?
A. It would depend on what the food item is and what it is for. If it is a small donut or snack, I probably would not say anything on the spot but I might casually bring it up the next time I stop by the store. It would not be a big deal to me. However, if the food was expensive and for a party or dinner with friends, I would most likely contact the store right away and let them know. Fortunately, in America, Singapore, and other places that I have stayed at, the stores are usually very helpful and will suggest either to refund or to make the food item for me again.
