Flag

There are two main colors in the flag of Portugal, green and red. The two colors were chosen because it has a connection to Portugal’s past and future. The color red stands for all the blood lost by all the people who fought for the country. The color green represents hope for the future. There is a yellow ribbon and shield design on the flag. The yellow ribbon is the armillary sphere. It represents the Age of Discoveries. There are seven yellow castles in the red shield and five smaller shields in the white shield. The castles and the shields stand for victory and the former kings of Portugal.
