My name is Sonya, and I am a patient, reliable, and dedicated English tutor. I truly enjoy helping learners build on their existing knowledge of the English language, gain confidence in speaking, and reach their individual goals.
As a native English speaker with well-developed listening skills, I am able to provide learners with the constructive, corrective feedback that is needed to improve their fluency in speaking.
Above all, I aim to establish a safe, supportive learning environment for English language learners, one in which they can freely and comfortably practice speaking English. Through conversation topics that are both fun and relevant, I will facilitate language learning in the most natural way possible and provide you with both suggestions and corrections you can use to improve your speaking skills. In the process, I will briefly touch on essential elements of grammar to enhance your understanding of key concepts.
Based in Ontario, Canada, I have more than 15 years of experience as an English as a Second Language tutor/teacher, including more than 10 years of experience working almost exclusively with international students from Korea at an established learning centre in Toronto. Aside from teaching, I have a background in proofreading and editing, and worked for a major publication while studying English Literature at the University of Toronto. I later completed a certificate in teaching English as a Second Language, and more recently, earned a Master of Education degree, achieving a major long-term goal I had set for myself years prior. I believe that learning is a journey that never ends.
