Don’t Touch the Head

The head is considered to be the most sacred part of the body by the Muslims. In the Muslim culture, it is extremely rude to touch a person on the top of the head. Visitors should apologize immediately if they accidentally touch a Malay person’s head. Not only is touching the top of a Malay person’s head extremely rude, but it is also very impolite to move things above someone’s head.

머리는 이슬람 교도들에 의해 가장 성스러운 부분으로 여겨진다. 이슬람 문화에서 사람의 정수리를 만지는 것은 극도로 무례한 행동이다. 방문객들이 뜻하지 않게 말레이 사람의 머리를 만졌을 경우 즉시 사과해야 한다. 말레이 사람의 머리에 손을 대는 것은 매우 무례할 뿐만 아니라 물건을 머리 위로 옮기는 것도 매우 실례이다.

A. In South Korea, patting children on the head is an expression of praise or affection. It is not considered rude or offensive to do so. However, it is considered rude to cross your legs in the presence of other people in South Korea. It is much more acceptable to sit with your legs uncrossed. Crossing your legs is seen as lazy or disrespectful in the South Korean culture. The best way is to sit up straight and keep your hands on your lap.
