Level 4

Day 27 - Are you a good decision maker?

  • 맛집영어 영어수강 영어교재 이미지

  • There are many decisions to be made every day in our lives. You will be surprised how many decisions we make every day. Are all decisions easy to make? Some can be simple like deciding what to play with during break time, but others can be difficult and challenging like what you want to be in the future. Making the right decision is very important. It can be hard to make a decision and people are often in two minds about the choices. You could change your entire life with one decision. Then, if decision making is so important, how can we make a good decision?
First, we need to think about the consequences that come after we make a decision. Think about what could happen after making a decision of your own. Will you be satisfied with it? Will there be anyone or anything that would be affected because of your decision? If you feel bad about something and you feel like you can’t fix it, don’t make the wrong decision. You need to make sure you won’t regret your choice once you make up your mind.
Second, time is also important when making a decision. Imagine you are the leader of a group, and you are to lead the group to complete a project in school. The members of your team have questions and want you to put things in order, but if you hesitate to help them, your team would probably get behind schedule and might not finish the work on time. Remember that there are always long-term and short-term decisions to make. If you don’t manage your time well, you might end up making the wrong decision.
Third, when you are not sure of something, ask someone for advice. If it is something small, you can ask your friends, but when it is important, it is best to ask an expert, your teacher, or your parents. When you ask for advice, try to find someone who really cares about you. It’s better to ask for help than to continue to sit on the fence.

    Expressions

"In two minds" : Can’t make a decision.

"Make up your mind" : To decide on something.

"Sit on the fence" : To be unsure on what side or choice to make.
