Day 19 – Pets

I have always been a cat person. I wanted a cat for a long time, but my parents were very against the idea because my dad is allergic to cats and other animals. I finally convinced them a few months ago and went straight to an animal shelter. I came home with a little gray cat. I named him Albert Heinstein the third, Albi for short. Albi was scared at first, but he warmed up to me within a day. He is a little ball of energy that runs around my apartment every day and scratches up my couch. He likes to play with me a lot and will attack me when I am sitting. But because he is so small, he is just all bark and no bite. He welcomes me at the door when I come home from school, so he is very similar to a dog at times. He even likes to go for a walk on the weekends. He also demands that I pet him sometimes but then when I try to pet him, he runs away and won’t let me near him. He is a confusing little creature. He is going to be my little buddy for a very long time.

I thought when I got a cat, I would just like them a lot and it would be similar to how it was before. My parents always say that having a pet is a big responsibility, but I didn’t realize how much of a responsibility it would be. Usually if dogs need to use the bathroom, we can just take the dog for a walk. But cats use a special bathroom. At first it was great because Albi used it on his own. But after a few days it started to smell bad, and I needed to clean it. There was so much in there. I was shocked that that much could come out of such a small body.

Also, he sheds so much. I have a lot of black clothes, so this is not very good. I always have to clean off my clothes before I leave my house once more because there are little gray hairs all over my shirts. Even with all of these little troubles, I still love Albi more than I thought I could. I am always so happy to see him when I come home, and he is happy to see me. We are best friends and I look forward to our time together.
