Day 9 – Hobbies

  • 맛집영어 영어수강 영어교재 이미지

  • I recently picked up a new hobby. My new hobby is skateboarding. My parents are very concerned about my new hobby. My mom thinks that only boys skateboard but my dad thinks that it is fine. My mom is worried everyday that I would fall and injure myself. Her concern is that I would get scars on my knees or worse, on my face. She is so worried, that every day she says she is going to tear her hair out seeing me on my skateboard. I tell her every day that I would be very careful but she is still worried. No matter how concerned she is, I will still skateboard. For me, it is the best feeling to be on a skateboard! When I am skateboarding, I feel so re-energized, and it recharges my batteries after a long week at school.

My friends also like to skateboard now. At first, they were not into it because they also thought it was rather dangerous. But after coming with me a few times to the skate park, they started to get really interested in all the tricks that we do and wanted to try it for themselves. Now it is a regular event for me and my friends to meet after school or on the weekend to go skateboarding.

I know that many people think skateboarding is a boys sport, but I want to change that way of thinking. There is no reason why girls shouldn’t be able to skateboard if they want to. The main reasons people give for girls to not skateboard are that we can get hurt. But we can get hurt the same by just walking down the street and falling down. People also don’t think it is very lady like to wear the helmet and knee pads while running and skating around. But I don’t agree, I think all my friends looks the prettiest when they are smiling and laughing while doing something they love. Do you think that only boys should do certain hobbies?
