Among the many states of America, a city by the interesting name of Boring can be found in the state of Oregon. It was named after William Harrison Boring, a Union soldier whose family built a farm in the area in 1856. The city name has resulted in many road signs that are hilarious to outsiders. The slogan for the city is, “The most exciting place to live!” In 2012, Boring was named a sister city of the village of Dull, Scotland and later Bland, Australia. In 2013, a major event featuring popular music groups and famous standup comedians was hosted to give Boring and the city of Normal, Illinois, a makeover.

I don’t know any cities in Singapore that has interesting names. Singapore is so small that there is not another city besides the whole country itself. However, I know of a few very funny street names. As Singapore used to be part of Malaysia, some of the older streets are name in the Malay language. There is a famous Jalan Malu street. Jalan means road in Malay, and Malu means ashamed or embarrassed, so residents living in that street are constantly on the receiving end of many jokes. Another is Kay Poh Road. Kay Poh means busybody. So residents on that road live on busybody road!
