Career Goals

“What are your career goals?” is a question commonly asked at interviews. You need to prepare an answer that will allow employers to know your short term and long term goals. It is expensive for employers to hire and train new employees, so interviewers want to know whether you plan to stay long term at the job that you are interviewing for.
If you haven't thought about the direction that you would like your career to go in, it's a good idea to give it some thought before you go on a job interview. Start your answer by sharing what you have accomplished so far in your career and where you would like to go next. Show the interviewers how the job that you are interviewing for fits into your career plan and why the job interests you. Doing so will show the employer that you will be committed to the job and they will be more likely to offer you the job than someone who is not clear about what they want for their career.
