Fritz and sauce is a classic Australian sandwich which is beloved by children. It has two slices of bread, tomato sauce, and fritz. Fritz is a type of sausage meat that is made from meat trimmings, flour, and seasonings. The bread is buttered and topped with the fritz slices. The sandwich is completed with the second slice of bread on top. The fritz can be sliced and eaten as it is, fried in a pan or even added to a salad. This sandwich is usually prepared for school lunch or an afternoon hike. Fritz is also a result of the large number of German settlers in South Australia.

A. For better or worse, hamburger and fries are popular school lunches in America. During my school years, my lunch cafeteria always had one line for salads, one line for hamburgers, and one line that serves a different dish every day. It could be lasagne, pasta, or anything else that is not hamburgers or salad. My friends and I always went to the third line that serves a different dish every day. We never knew what dish it was for that day and the food was usually better than the other two lines, in my opinion.
