Basel Carnival is the largest carnival in Switzerland. It is held in Basel every year between February and March. It is an event with colorful costumes, masks, and parades. It starts at 4am on Monday and continues until 4am on Thursday. This festival draws over 200,000 spectators and 20,000 participants in the festival itself every year. The participants in costumes and masks lose their heads and run around the streets and restaurants to throw small pieces of paper on all the spectators! In 2017, the Carnival of Basel was included in UNESCO’s cultural heritage.

A. Yes, I do. The most popular festival in America that is similar to the Carnival of Basel is Fat Tuesday. It is always celebrated on Tuesday. People come from all over America and the world to New Orleans in February to celebrate. There are spectators, music, food, parade, and colorful costumes and floats everywhere. The highlight of the festival is to get the people on the floats to throw them beads. Only the people on the floats have the beads. Spectators will do anything to get the beads from the floats. These beads are bright, colorful, and very cheap but they are like precious diamonds and pearls during the parade.
