Are there any well-known places in your city or country with famous legends?

When I first arrived to Singapore, I worked with a housing agent to find a place to live. The main criteria that I had was that the apartment had to be new. This was easy as the town was new and most of the apartments were new. However, there were only two new apartments in the area that I liked. I went to see one of them but not the other. When I asked the agent why, he told me that the second apartment was haunted!
Apparently, before the apartment buildings were built, there were old wooden houses in the area. One of the wooden houses was well-known to be haunted. When the government decided to develop the area and wanted to tear down that house, it led to an opposition in the neighborhood! Everyone said that it would bring them bad luck if the government tore down that house, and they protested! The story about the haunted house was so famous that even people in the local government knew about it. Eventually they decided to leave a portion of the old house and redesigned it into the common space area of the apartment buildings. According to the housing agent, it was made into a space for storage in the gardens of the apartment buildings.
