Singapore is well-known for going from a third-world nation to a first-world nation in one generation. The government made this possible by creating a successful framework and policies of how they planned to develop economic sectors within the country. The economy is highly developed and successful despite the fact that Singapore does not have a lot of natural resources. It depends largely on exports in IT products, software, and medical products. Singapore went from a GDP per capita of less than SGD320 to SGD60,000 in one generation.

Q. What do you think of the fact that Singapore went from a third-world nation to a first-world nation in one generation?

A. I think that it is very impressive! I read up a little on this a long time ago and I learned that this was largely possible due to the efforts of the first Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. He was one of the main reasons why Singapore was able to achieve what it has in the last five decades. To be able to achieve this kind of success for the country is success beyond words. I think other third-world countries can look to how Singapore achieved this if they are interested to do the same.
