The area known as the ‘Jewish Quarter” is in the city of Toledo in Spain. This was where local Jews used to live. Sadly, one of the reasons why these areas existed was because of the prejudice against Jews in the past. The Jewish Quarter was used a lot during World War II when most of Europe was occupied by Nazis. These areas allowed for the segregation of Jews. Today, the Jewish Quarter in Spain represents an important part of the country’s history, and it is a unique attraction to experience.

'유대인 구역'으로 알려진 지역은 스페인의 톨레도에 있다. 이 곳은 지역 현지 유대인들이 살던 곳이다. 슬프게도, 이 유대인들을 상대로 한 편견들이 이 장소가 아직까지도 존재하는 이유이다. 유대인 구역은 제2차 세계대전 당시 나치에 의해 유럽 대부분이 점령당했을 때 많이 사용되었다.

Q. Did you learn about what happened to the Jews during World War II when you were at school?

A. Yes, this is a topic that I learned about in detail when I was at school. I am very glad that I learned about it because it teaches you about mistakes from the past and what we should never do again. This is why I think history is such an important subject. The tragedy of what happened with the Jews and the suffering that they went through should never be forgotten. It is a lesson for all of us to learn from.
